How to prepare your home for guests

Hosting guests in your home is both exciting and stressful. This is especially true during the holiday season when most people are likely to spend days if not weeks at your house. To help you out, I’ve compiled a list of things you need to keep in mind when you are prepping your home for guests:

Take care of outside areas
From the driveway to your front porch, outside areas are the first places your guests will come into contact with, and as such, they have to be clean. To save time, you can hire a professional cleaning company to clean up leaves, dirt, cobwebs, and anything else that might make the outside areas of your home unsightly.

Take the time to declutter
Be it toys that are piling up in bedrooms or extra furniture that can make it difficult for people to move around, there are plenty of things that can crowd your home. Before guests arrive, take the time to remove any items that you don’t need. You can choose to either store these items in your garage, throw them away or donate them if they are in good condition.

Prepare your kitchen accordingly
During holidays such as Easter, the kitchen is usually one of the busiest areas in your home. Add to this, all of the food you will be preparing, and you are also bound to have plenty of leftovers. Before guests arrive, I recommend deep cleaning your kitchen and clearing out your fridge to make space for leftovers. It’s also important to clean your microwave, oven, grills, and any other utensils that might come in handy.

Clean all other high-traffic areas
Most domestic cleaning experts consider places such as living rooms, bathrooms, toilets, and bedrooms to be the most popular areas for incoming guests. As such, it is advised that these areas are cleaned and sanitized thoroughly before guests arrive to avoid any inconvenience. I would also recommend keeping places such as bathrooms and toilets clean throughout the duration of your visitors’ stay to prevent the spread of germs.

Preparing your home for guests is time-consuming and requires a lot of planning ahead to make sure everything is done in time. If you are struggling to cope, you should consider hiring a local cleaning company to save time and money.
